Existing Film Publications - Introduction

I am going to be looking at different types of magazine covers for films and analysing each of them in terms of the conventions being used. With doing this, it will help me think about what styles are appropriate for my magazine cover which I will be creating.

Poster Conventions

Below are all possible poster conventions that can be found on posters. I found most of these from film posters. With seeing this and getting an idea on what to expect, I will create my own poster.

Poster Analysis 5 & Conclusion

For my final fifth poster, I analysed a poster for the Science-Fiction "The Amazing Spider-Man 2".

This poster contained  conventions found in all of my posters from different kinds of genre. This poster had an extra convention which we did not see form the previous posters. This convention was the reference to different formats, such as: IMAX.

Conclusion

From this task I have learnt that many posters share the same conventions regardless of what genre they are. When I create my own poster, teaser trailer and magazine cover, I now know what conventions to use. By doing this, I have learnt many different types of conventions which I have not heard before and grasping what each one means. I have successfully, analysed all posters and found all the appropriate conventions which I have used.

Poster Analysis 4

For my fourth poster, I looked at a poster for the film "Me Before You". This type of genre is romance.

This poster has consistences of conventions, in comparison to the previous posters. However, the conventions here are very limited.

Poster Analysis 3

For my third poster, I looked at another film. This film was called "The Conjuring 2". This film was a genre of horror.

This poster shared the same conventions as the previous two posters. However, only one difference which was not found in the other two posters was the reference to other films.

Poster Analysis 2

I am now going to analyse the movie poster for the film "Dirty Grandpa". This movie is a comedy genre. I will see if it contains similar conventions from the poster I did previously called "Wolfpack".

This movie poster shared similar conventions to "Wolfpack". However, here, there were a few more conventions which could be seen for example: the social media link and the sound logo.

Poster Analysis 1

Below I have analysed the movie poster for the film "Wolfpack". This film is an documentary genre. Below you would see what conventions the poster contains.

The conventions I found on this poster are title of film, dominant central image, credits, production company logo, awards, reviews and tagline. Next, I will look at a movie poster from a different genre, to check and see if they have the same conventions, which I hope it will.
